Compression Return

$475.00

Acrylic on panel, 12 × 12 in
From the series Near Disappearance (2025)

Compression Return records a single contained event: a force drawn inward and folded back upon itself. Executed as one continuous circular gesture on a white ground, the form holds visible shifts in pressure—dense and compressed in some passages, thinning and releasing in others. The circle remains open, allowing tension to persist rather than resolve completely.

Part of Susan Hunter Guise’s ongoing structural abstraction series, this work explores the moment when directional movement gives way to containment. After lateral and vertical forces have acted, energy is neither discharged nor dispersed, but held—returning inward under its own weight.
